With It Would Look Like... I distribute specific statements to participants and ask them to continue the statements with their own words. I then use the responses to the statements as a guide to select images from my extensive personal archive of about 100,000 of my own photos.
For Captive Audience, I asked friends, family, strangers, and artists to respond to the statement: “If I were to go to prison, and I could only bring one photograph with me, it would look like...” Over 100 responses to this statement were received, and I took two weeks to go through my archive to find photos to match them. The statements are displayed alongside16 selected images and a book containing all of the statements received.
